But three months ago, a toy company believes it is onto something when it employs the latest government military technology in a series of action figures, enabling them to talk. They underestimate the power of the special micro chips they've employed, however,the two opposing sides of the toy line start thinking for themselves and engaging in real combat! The Commando Elite vow to wipe out the Gorgonites in a suburban neighborhood. Alan, his neighbor Christy Fimple, (on whom he has a massive crush) with the help of the kind Gorgonites, must protect his home and family from the Commandos.

The Commando Elite's purpose is to destroy the Gorgonites. Unfortunately, the toy designer who was responsible for the programming, bought highly intelligent military computer chips that are usually used for steering missiles, and are able to learn. Now, the Commando Elite, led by Major Chip Hazard, is up to destroying the Gorgonites, led by peaceful Archer, who hide in Alan's parents' house. Now, a battle, in which the destructive ability of creative computer chips against creative computer chips with a different attitude comes to light, is about to begin.
I caught this film on t.v. over the xmas holiday's - there was absolutely nothing on, and I was in a weird, "I'll watch anything mood!". This film surprised me, and I really enjoyed it.<br/><br/>Some nut at a toy factory has installed these new toys with munition chips - basically chips that should be in army type weapons -you do!! You get the idea? You see what's gonna happen?! good. So these new toys hit the market and basically they unleash a war on each other, and it all kinda gets outa control!! <br/><br/>There are the Soldiers, who you would think are the good guys, and there are others, Gorgonites I think they were called (I can't be bothered to check!) And these are the ones we should care for.<br/><br/>It's a good film with loads of sub textual reference's to other films, merchandise, marketing you name it, and it's probably got a reference to it here - even the Spice Girls for God's sakes!!!! Actually that bit is funny - the humans are trapped in a house and suddenly the song 'Wannabe' blasts out of a stereo system<br/><br/>WOMAN - "What's going on??!!" MAN - "Psychological warfare!!"<br/><br/>Genius! <br/><br/>Best line of the movie? Major Chip Hazzard (Tommy Lee Jones)<br/><br/>"He was a good soldier. His battery is dead, but his memory will live on, and on, and on!" (Duracell if you wanna know!!)<br/><br/>Yeah so, if your bored and fancy watching a kids' film, then watch this, it'll make you smile.<br/><br/>On the whole a good film with great effects.<br/><br/>6/10
When missile technology is used to enhance toy action figures, the toys soon begin to take their battle programming too seriously. Small Soldiers is incredibly underrated and was unfortunately a bit ahead of it's time and sure it kinda reminds a bit of Toy Story but it also does things of it's own mixing Warriors against Commando's and the whole thing just works perfectly. Plus the casting is really good since well known actors suchKirsten Dunst and the late Phil Hartman can be seen in here plus another good Dick Miller rolewell. (10/10)
